Single-Pole vs. 3-Way, Decora vs. Toggle

A single-pole switch controls a light from one location; a 3-way switch is installed in pairs to control the same light from two locations, like opposite ends of a hallway. Decora switches use a flat rocker paddle, while toggle switches use a traditional flip lever - both work the same way, with the choice coming down to style and matching wall plate.
